Johannesburg, South Africa – After two years of successfully hosting the Wilson R100 000 Challenge, leading tennis manufacturer Wilson have confirmed this year’s tournament to be played once again at the German Club north of the City of Johannesburg from 1-5 May 2015. Play will start each day at 09h00 with the finals scheduled for noon on Tuesday 5 May.
“Following the great success and positive response from the tennis community to our first two Wilson Challenge events over the past two years, we have decided to continue with the sponsorship and host a bigger and better event this year” said brothers Brad and Brett Summers, Directors of The Golf Racket, who are the distributors of Wilson products throughout South Africa.
The tournament will have four divisions namely an Men’s and Women’s open event as well as a boys and girls 14 and under event. Each event will have singles and doubles draws.
Entries for the holiday weekend tournament have closed and tournament organisers are pleased with the number of players entered.
“We have received an impressive entry which is a clear indication of the importance and need of these types of tournaments in the country” said Brad Summers.
Prize money will be paid from the quarter finals.
The sponsors will have the rights to 4 wild card nominations into the Open tournament and the tournament will be run under the auspices of Tennis South Africa (TSA). The tournament wild cards and seeds will be announced tomorrow (Wednesday).
President and Acting Chief Executive of Tennis South Africa (TSA), Gavin Crookes said he was grateful to Wilson for the initiative. “Tennis is going through some challenging yet exciting changes in the country. Wilson over the years have partnered with TSA in the overall promotion and development of the game in South Africa. A tournament like this brings all the junior and senior players together at one venue to play competitively against each other but socialize off court as one big tennis family proving that tennis is after all the game of a lifetime” said Crookes.
