Pretoria, South Africa – South African Davis Cup Squad mates Nik Scholtz and Lloyd Harris together with Wheelchair Tennis South Africa celebrated their Mandela Day by being part of development tennis clinic for kids from ten development centre’s around Pretoria, hosted by Tennis South Africa.
The 67 minute clinic was held at the Irene Country Club outside Pretoria that is hosting the Davis Cup by BNP PARISBAS this weekend.

The clinic was held as part of the Davis Cup weekend taking place between South Africa and Ireland and in honour of late President Nelson Mandela. People around the world are asked on this day to celebrate President Mandela’s birthday by doing good for 67 minutes for someone less fortunate. Both Scholtz and Harris were extremely happy to be a part of such a special event honouring a great man. “I believe that it is extremely important to give back because at the end of the day these young kids are the future and we need to nurture them”, said Harris.
“Giving back is very important not just for today but as a way of life and that was the message that President Mandela left me with” added Scholtz.

Tennis South Africa (TSA) President Gavin Crookes said that TSA were proud to be associated with 67 minutes for Mandela Day. “Nelson Mandela believed that sport was the best form of unifying the people of this country and for TSA to be a part of it on a day where South Africa could clinch the tie is mind-blowing and exciting.”
