V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa: Over this past weekend at the Growthpoint South African Squash Nationals staged at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, Squash South Africa partnered with Lewis/Bears and the Lesedi la Batho Centre to raise awareness of the unemployment crisis failing South Africa.

The Lesedi la Batho Cantre in Mobopane north of Gauteng, was created for unemployed people and provides many with skills, from sewing to beadwork, computer skills and baking, allowing them to make and sell a range of merchandise to the public. They also have a life-skills course for young people who have not completed their education.

One of the divisions, Amogelang Diphetogo, manufactures teddy bears which help approximately 20 ladies and their families in the Mabopane community to have an income.

In the interests of sustainability, Lewis/Bears supports this project by ordering bears that are donated to children in hospitals, hospices, children’s homes, and places of safety for children.

Todate Lewis/Bears have donated over 4,000 bears to delighted young children. Each teddy is handmade and unique.

On Saturday professional squash players Siyoli Waters and Teresa Lategan brought 30 junior players to

the all-glass championship court at the V&A Waterfront for a squash development clinic. The junior squash players, from the greater Western Province area, were taught squash skills by Waters and Lategan, each given Amogelang Diphetogo teddy bear and treated to a burger and chips lunch by Santa Ana Spur at the V&A Waterfront.
