Dimba and Isaacs begin International Journey at African Hockey Road to Paris 2024 Qualifier
Pretoria, Tshwane, South Africa: The African Hockey Road to Paris 2024 Qualifier is currently underway in Pretoria in South Africa. Seven African Women’s teams are competing for the one African Hockey spot at the Paris Olympics.
And while the Road to Paris is a step on the journey for the teams, it marks the first step of the international journal for Aphiwe Dimba and Paris-Gail Isaacs. The two both made their international debuts in South Africa’s 10-0 opening day victory against Zimbabwe.
“I can’t believe I’ve made it this far. I have sat in the stands with my parents and now I’m on the field with the team,” shared Paris-Gail Isaacs after her debut against Zimbabwe “the weather wasn’t great, but I will never forget my opening game for my country!”
“I was standing out there and struggled to comprehend the moment,” shared Aphiwe Dimba “although the weather was not great, they say that rain is a blessing, so I’ll take that as a blessing for my first cap and hopefully the rest of my career!”
South Africa has already secured a place in the semi-finals after winning their opening two games at the tournament and will play either Zambia or Ghana in the Semi-Final on Friday. The winner of that game will progress to the final on Sunday and the opportunity to secure a place at the Paris Olympics.
Ends.
